Born 1975. Currently Lives and Works in London
The work of Stephen Walter (Born 1975) is an investigation into the phenomena of place. Each work is an intricate world in itself; a tangle of words and symbols that make up a complex of hidden meanings and wider contradictions. Through mainly drawing, photography and printmaking, his artworks explore the meaning of objects, the glory of maps, our place in the World and the legacy that we bequeath to future generations.
Whilst visiting the city, Walter fell in love with a woman from Liverpool. This map rejoices in this love story and the pride and energy in which Liverpudlians talk and feel about their city. It translates Liverpool’s character on to paper, its quirks, idiosyncrasies and its stereotypes into a celebration of the masonry and hearts of Liverpool.
